Cafe Red Onion

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to locals

Tasty pineapple salsa.

They put sour cream all over all the entrees. And for those of you with “mixed preference” parties, there’s probably nothing vegetarian on the menu.

I always forget that they’re closed on Sundays.

Paris

Why I want to go to this place

What’s the deal with springtime in Paris? Is it just the flowers? When is the prettiest time to visit? (between March and May/June)

Susur

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: A marvelous birthday dinner.

It was so delicious.

He wrote: “Check Susur off the list. Meal was amazing. Presentation was ridiculously artistic and Susur was nice enough to come out of the kitchen and say hello, and wish Kate a happy birthday.”

Manchester

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Manchester, VT is basically a big outlet mall disguised as a cute little town. I mean, there are still cute little town things there, but it is mostly outlet mall with many brand names, and has a 0% sales tax on clothing. The kind of outlet mall we’re all used to these days, where the clothing is specially manufactured and not factory seconds. Still found some great deals. They’ve got a Ben & Jerry’s stand.

We ended up here when our Googlemap directions dumped us off at Hwy 11/30 with no indication about which direction to continue in.

A tip I have about this place

Who would’ve thought a place called “Olde Town Farm Inn” would have great sushi? They do.

Brattleboro

A tip I have about this place

We didn’t actually have time in our schedule to visit Brattleboro itself, but I just want to say that America’s Best Inn on Putney (2 miles north of town) is totally sketchy and we paid way too much.

Ben & Jerry's Factory

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

I’ve been on a different ice cream factory tour (Blue Bell, in Texas) and enjoyed the view of their (larger) production floor much more. I guess it’s just hard to see what’s going on here. Still an interesting stop on our trip.

What was the deal with the movie, where they constantly refer to B&J as “real guys” yet they never speak or appear in any live video (I understand they are no longer “involved” with the company, but it’s still weird).

The $3 admission was worth it, I guess. A good excuse to take a leisurely drive and stop and eat ice cream in that lovely state (if you’re visiting in, say, the summer rather than the winter) and support the local (St. Albans) farmers.

Also: Hwy 100 running south through the state was a lovely alternative to taking 89 all the way up (but it’s mostly one lane in each direction, if you hate that sort of thing).

Lupe Tortilla's - SW Freeway

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to locals

Best fajitas in town. The beef is marinated in something delicious, and the tortillas are wonderful (if stretched a bit thin).
