Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, Baton Rouge

Small.

Gates A1-A4, B1-B6, and that’s it as far as I know. Drop off / pick up passengers is a breeze because there’s only one easily manageable terminal. Parking garage is right across the street by sky-bridge.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Liked it.

Very cute. Liked this town despite (being part of the) cruise ship tourist infestation.

Temperate climate, supposedly between 30s and 70s pretty much all year. Lovely rainforests.

There is a Wal-Mart. Apparently people come (by boat or sea-plane) from 400 miles around to shop there. Seemed more like middle-of-nowhere cabin country than shopping metropolis, but clearly I have no idea.

Rained all morning. Apparently it rains there like 85% of the days of the year.

For comparison:

annual rainfall in Houston 47"

annual rainfall in Seattle 36"

annual rainfall in Ketchikan 152"

Suck it up, put on some appropriate rain gear, and get out there! We did a bike ride + hike in the rain and it was lovely.

Skagway, Alaska

Liked it

Despite being overrun with tourists May thru September, I really liked Skagway.

The downtown area (while partially gift-shop-infested) is still cute and full of gold-rush era buildings. It actually has access to the ALCAN = roads to Alaska, Canada, Lower 48. It does not have a Wal-Mart. It does have people who drove their campers up for holiday! I would have liked to stay more than just the afternoon.

The White Pass rail tour is really beautiful.
