A review of this place: being a ski bum

Just a great place, if you work for the mountain ie Vail Resort you ski for free on your days off, not just at Breck, also Keystone, Vail, Beaver Creek, Araphoe Basin. Spent two winters out ther being a ski bum, in my forties. Not too bad.

Mount Saint Helens

Worth visiting!

spooky...

We got to the visitor center above Spirit Lake just half an hour before it closed. The drive up was creepy, mostly fog and clouds as we drove through the blast zone, barren even in ‘95, we stayed only until the visitor center closed, and then bolted, after having caught glimpses of the blasted mountain in the distance. It was an eerie and haunted place, one I couldn’t wait to run away from. But still, what a cool experience!!!

Mallorca

Worth visiting!

once upon a time

My grandma lived here in the late ‘60s when I was but six. I remember the fancy hotel she lived in, flamenco dancers, the beach club where we ate lunch, getting sand in my underpants, and my dad being a dork and lecturing my poor four year old brother for hours about some stupid ass thing.

Aah, the memories of a child…

A review of this place: Mainer visits own tourist spot!!!

Yes, believe it or not, as a Mainer I have actually driven up to Acadia/Bar Harbor TWICE!!!. Normally “natives” do not visit their own tourist traps, but I haven’t been able to resist. It really is stunning, especially to us Portland natives so far to the south. The light is just different, not to mention when mountains meet the sea, magic has to happen.

Old Orchard Beach

A tip I have about this place

The tag obese applied to OOB, Maine refers to all the Quebecois who use this place as their Riviera. Can you imagine hirsute, hypertanned, overly large men in banana hammocks and lots of gold jewelry?
In the rest of Maine it refers to northernmost Appalachia, subsisting on food stamps and the junk food peddled out of convenience stores

A review of this place: biased...

My mom was born and grew up here. When I was much younger I spent a part of every summer here. The Danes are friendly, proud, literate, speak plenty of English, the coffee and beer and food is phenomenal, the sense of design is always cutting edge, everybody rides bicycles, Tivoli is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world, you can throw a stone across the water and hit Sweden. Go to Stroget for all pedestrian shopping streets, go to Christiania for the legalized counter culture, go to the National Museum for the peat woman and the Bronze Age art, see the Little Mermaid, (she really is little), meet some crazy Danes and enjoy yourself. Stop me…
