I visited here for a little over 2 weeks in June of 2001. The people were the nicest I’ve ever met! I had never been out of the U.S. before—hardly ever out of my home state, even, and yet, within a few hours of de-training in Leeuwarden, I met two of the nicest sisters, and even found myself staying overnight with one of them.

I felt as comfortable wandering around on my own in this foreign city as if I were in Albany, NY. It is a really lovely, laid back place. The scenery and shopping were great. I miss it very much.

I live here. I like it here—-well, sometimes the flatlanders (downstate tourists) can be a bit pushy and rude—and traffic can be nasty when there’s something special going on, like the motorcycle rally, the firemans’ convention or the Elvis Festival…but overall, it’s a fun place to live and visit. It’s generally quiet here from late October to late April. If you want to take full advantage of all the attactions without the hassle of the crowds, pre-Memorial Day to early June are your best bets. I work, at present, at the race track/casino in Saratoga Springs, so I guess I can’t knock the tourists too much—-they help pay for my paycheck!
