Stubb's Bar-B-Q, Downtown

great place for shows - good food too

If I’m at Stubb’s, it’s usually to see bands. They have a small indoor stage and a large outdoor venue. I’ve seen bands on both stages… big name bands (Sonic Youth, The Flaming Lips, Pavement, Sebadoh) outdoors and smaller bands (Godspeed You Black Emperor, Pan American) inside.

I think I’ve eaten at Stubb’s once or twice… it’s the sort of place I eat at when it’s convenient, as there isn’t much parking unless you’re willing to walk for blocks and blocks.

Cooper's BBQ, Llano

my favorite barbeque joint

After waiting in line, you will meet a man with a fork pointed into a pit. He asks “whatdya want?” After gazing at brisket, sausage, ribs, pork chops, chicken… you select a meat or two. Then he asks: “dip it?” You nod and the meat is dunked into a light barbeque sauce. He hands you your meat on a tray. You go inside, someone cuts the meat up, and you order cream corn and sweet tea. Then, you cozy up with strangers at crowded picnic tables in a room adorned with many dead animals heads and a few George Bush photos.

If you don’t know what to order, go for the “Big Chop.” It’s goooood.

Angel Fire, New Mexico

snowboarding in Angel Fire

My first (and only, so far) snowboarding trip was at Angel Fire Resort in Angel Fire, NM. Had a great time there!
