The Myrtles Plantation

Worth visiting!

I've stayed four times

For the sole purpose of paranormal investigations. If you’re interested in finding out more about what we’ve encountered there, visit the website www.southernghosts.com. Click on “Investigations” and then the subject “New Orleans” for some insights. I was just there three weeks ago and we uncovered some pretty interesting stuff.

Talkeetna

Worth visiting!

Quaint

It’s a stepping stone waypoint to Denali. Off the beaten path, but very touristy. Nice when the tour buses are gone, you feel like you own the place. But when the cruise ship tour buses drop people off, it’s like Main Street Disney. Looked like Dawn of the Dead with all these tourist zombies walking around. Gotta good laugh from that during our visit! Definitely check out the soup and bread dinner at the Roadhouse. And the homemade pies are exquisite!

Talkeetna is also base for flightseeing excursions to Denali. Went on a beautiful morning, clear blue skies and the day after new snowfall in the mountains. Beautiful and highly recommended!

Anchorage

Amazing vacation

We were in Alaska August 2005 for 12 amazing days. First two days in Anchorage, then back country camping and kayaking in Kenai Fjords National Park, then on to Talkeetna and Denali. Best vacation I’ve been on for a variety of reasons. One thing my girl friend wanted to see in the wild was a moose. We saw practically everything else but, until our final day. Our flight out was in several hours so I looked at a local map to see where animal sightings were most likely. One was by the airport. On our last drive in Alaska, we stumbled across the mom and her calf right near a substation by the airport. Not exactly in the wilderness but we did see moose!

Florida Southern College (Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings)

Worth visiting!

Went to school here ...

... wouldn’t recommend the school for a variety of reasons, but the campus is beautiful. Largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright designed and built structures in the world. Any fans of architecture should definitely stop by. Tours are available.

Place to go if ...

... you’re into the scene—fashion, glitz. I find SoBe very artificial and shallow. I do love the architecture, though. Worth the trip just for that. Stop by the News Cafe and just spend the afternoon people watching from your sidewalk table. Very entertaining.

Chaco Canyon

Worth visiting!

Take your time

I’ve been three times and find it most enchanting at sunset. Most of the park is empty and you can imagine what it must have been like when the culture was thriving. It’s almost as if you can hear the sun setting. Last time I was there, there was a chorus of coyotes howling as the sun was setting. It was electrifying.

Taos

Worth visiting!

Paradise

There is a spiritual and soulful vibration about Taos that is difficult to explain. Once you’ve been there, you’ll want to go back. I was so drawn to the area I visited from South Florida three times in three months. I plan on buying some land and building a strawbale adobe home. It’s on my list!

Kenai Fjords National Park

Worth visiting!

Paradise

Along with my girlfriend and son (15yo), we went on a 7 day camping/kayaking trip into KFNP last August. It was the trip of a lifetime. It was backcountry camping at its best. I highly recommend a trip into this area if you’re looking to lose yourself in nature. You’ll feel insignificant yet so alive!

Pic is of my son and our guide surveying the vast Holgate Glacier.
