After a while in SF, you might get lost in superficiality and superlatives. That’s, when the Doc orders a dose of Zeitgeist. On Duboce and Valencia, Zeitgeist is a beergarden and a bar, usually full to the brim with people from bank managers to homeless guys, from Venture Capitalists to Marxists. It’s a great place to be. Try the burger.

Imagine someone taking a steamroller and mushing all of the East Village into some much larger area. That’s San Francisco. The expanded size means, of course, a lot of empty space between nice places, but San Franciscans aren’t usually known to travel between city districts much … or, for that matter, outside of SF. Yes, it’s true, I know at least a dozen San Franciso residents who have never been to any of the cities 30 miles south of SF.

People come to New York to feel they’re part of something bigger. In contrast, people come to San Francisco to feel like it’s all about them. I love San Francisco, but NYC is, where the heart is.
