If I can at all help it, I will never go to Iowa again. My every experience in the state has been that the people were surly and unfriendly. When the people manning your welcome center, who are paid to be nice and give a good impression of your state, are unpleasant and give attitude, your state has problems. Plus, when driving north through Iowa to Minnesota, there’s that long section of I-35 from Des Moines to the Minnesota border where is nowhere to stop, especially if you happen to be travelling at night.
