Not Paris - and that's good

I went to school here for a semester then came back years later to visit my host family and climb. 10 years later it still holds a dear place in my heart.

Friendly people, excellent weather, close to the mountains and close to the beach, good nightclubs, amazing food, and Salvador Dalí declared the city’s railway station the centre of the universe! What more can you ask for?

Mesilla

Worth visiting!

Mesilla - adjacent to Las Cruces

This cool town has great bars and restaurants. Now a protected historical site, it has successfully prevented McDonalds, Walmart, and other chains from destroying its character.

Visit this website for more information. Or search Flickr for Mesilla tags . This guy has a good Flickr set.

Beautiful

I’ve looked down from above and up from below. It is truly spectacular. For American travlers bring us $20 if you want to see the falls from the Zambian side.

The Incline

Worth visiting!

Challenge Yourself! - The Incline

This is perhaps the hardest 1-mile you’ll ever do. It follows an old Cog Railway straight up the side of a mountain. It is only 1 mile long, but gains 2000’ feet in altitude. Just walking it without stopping is a feat worthy of mention. Lots of people ‘run’ the incline weekly and then come down Barr Trail – the hiking trail that runs from Manitou Springs to the top of Pikes Peak. It takes most hikers about 3 or 4 hours. Runners in good shape can do it in about 2 hours. The record for going up is somewhere around 18 minutes. Visit the Incline Club Website for more information.

The Incline was officially marked “no trespassing” in June 2000, but many people go up every day. This was done more for liability purposes than anything else. If you come to town, grab a local to take you.
