UBC

Worth visiting!

i miss UBC, even though i never attended!

i just moved to ann arbor for law school, before which i lived in vancouver with my boyfriend. i wish i had gone to UBC law instead. i just loved how open and huge it was.

A review of this place: overrated and overpriced..

first of all, it looks nothing like the way it does on seinfield once you get inside. it has failed several health inspections and the food is sub-par. its only redeeming quality is its storefront which provides seinfield fanatics the photo-op.

A tip I have about this place

this is actually a lovely place to study. it’s on the 6th floor of butler library and is very beautiful. only problem is that it is not a 24 hrs reading room, so you have to plan accordingly. plus, this is one part of butler that is always open to the public, so you will be competing a lot more for studying space.

Untitled

i hated my own alma mater. i’m in my i-hate-new-york phase and i think hating columbia is just a symptom of it.

Stanley Park

The first time I went to this place

The first time I was here was the summer of ‘05. I fell in love again and again. I realized other urban parks are just that whereas Stanley Park is an embracing of nature itself. It’ll pull through the damage from the windstorms, let’s rally on.

How this place changed my life

Haha, well it didn’t phenomenally changed my life but it taught me to conquer my fear! Of rollercoasters. I know it’s no Six Flags but the park had some of the most intimidating coasters I’ve ever seen, my oh my. My boyfriend made me ride every one of them and in the end, I was a happier person for it.

Avoid the wooden coasters, though. They’re not so much thrilling as they are painful, cuz the ride isn’t as smooth.

Chocolate World

Worth visiting!

sorry, not really a review

i liked chocolate world; i have a special place in my heart for it and hershey, PA in general because my boyfriend went to school there for a year. it was cute and had all the usual marketing gimmicks: hot chocolate bar, huge candy store, a mock factory for younger kids to make their own hershey’s kisses.

A review of this place: a great excursion and part of a bigger UBC tour

i definitely recommend it. it’s not a huge cash-cow type museum but certainly a worthy one. the tour guide on my visit was intelligent, welcoming and able to spark and maintain our interest in the exhibits. they have one rotating exhibit every month or so? i’m actually not sure of this. but they’re always interesting.

the reconstructed haida village is great too.

The Cupcake Store

Worth visiting!

who doesn't love cupcakes?!

the decor sure puts anyone in a brighter mood – pink, pink, pink and more pink! the cupcakes were good; pretty with rich frosting and a decent number of varieties. they’re not phenomenal, though. in the back of your mind, you can’t help wondering if you wouldn’t be able to bake some yourself.

i think it takes after magnolia and the buttercup bakeshop in new york.
