The Pied Cow, Laurelhurst

Untitled

A coffeehouse, definitive Portland culture in style and decor.

The dessert menu is impressive.

Two drugs available in addition to caffeine: You can order Kava (a sort of tea that happens to be a sedative). Outside, you can smoke flavored tobacco (vanilla, cinnamon, etc) through hookas.

Rimsky-Korsakoffee House, Buckman

Untitled

Someone once said:

“rimskys is inside of a bermuda triangle. even with the address in hand, i passed it several times before finding it.”

The place looks like a residential house, but there is a subtle OPEN sign in the widow. The place is built like a haunted house: the decorations are filled with surprises, some of them are quite subtle.

Also, expect live music rather than conversation, with performances tending towards classical styles rather than modern.

You probably won’t have to wait a little while for seating, but the place stays nearly full.
