More great skiing in the Alps

A modern ski town, but great terrain. A few notes in the Davos chapter of my ever-growing guide to skiing the alps.

Also, check out Pistehors for detailed notes on backcountry / off-piste routes the Davos – Klosters area.

Enormous

Great terrain, easily accessible by train. A few more notes included in the St. Anton chapter of my nascent guide to skiing the alps.

Too Crowded

Overcrowded and traffic-ridden, but the best place for weekend skiing if you live in San Francisco. Hence, the crowds.

Watch out for salvage ships and diggers

Nearby Pulau Rawa was far more scenic… had a semi-disaterous time on Pulau Tioman with heavy machinery on the beach running over our towels and industrial / military freighters surrounding the snorkeling areas. Kind funny in retrospect. Photos here.

Stewart Island

Only if you like mud...

Not a good tourist destination, but if you enjoy tramping (hiking) and waist-deep mud, you can’t do much better than Stewart Island. It’s out there.

Milford Sound

Smaller boats are better

Avoid the large cruise ships and hordes of tourists… go for a paddle around the sound in a sea kayak. And bring lots of bug spray.

A cleaner, greener, smaller San Francisco?

Amazing city to inhabit or visit, especially for twentysomething professional-types. More restaurants/cafes per capita than almost anywhere else, gorgeous harbour, wicked winds, impossibly green hills, and good nightlife for a town its size. A few architectural photos here.
