“I'm going to be attending the World Cup. I have US tickets. What is recommended near Nuremburg, Gelsenkirchen and Kaiserslautern? How about inexpensive lodging ideas? Is it possible to camp near those cities via public transportation?”

The only place even close to these cities I’ve been is the collegetown of Regensberg, which I would definitely recommend: small, laid-back, full of undergraduates, plus with some really great Roman ruins. Unfortunately most of my knowledge of Germany is for over on the extreme west side, Frankfurt and the Mosel region.
