I lived in New York City for 2 years in my early 20’s. I made a last minute decision, one day, that I was going to move from alabama to New York, and I was going to make it. (I had always heard the saying “If you can make it in NY…”) I lived in a tiny apartment in the west village and shared my bedroom. I was always completely broke. I had dreamed of all of the creative things that I would get into there, and then I realized that I would actually have to work somewhere to make a living. It was the most wonderful place I have lived, and it was completely perfect for me at that time in my life. I learned to grow up in Manhattan. I learned how to take care of myself, how to entertain myself, and how to be an adult while enjoying life like a child. When I left NY, I left with the gift of knowing myself. I left with hope for the future. I left knowing what I truly wanted to do with my life.
