this place. is sacred space. i grew up here, every summer for a week, since i was three. thats 21 years now. i haven’t missed one. montauk love. hither hills, those moon-surface craters, those third dune pit parties… the hurricane waves, the sandcastle contests, the first time things, the shower line, the fire safety rules (when i was young we’d roast marshmallows over a big fire, but now that’s not allowed)... manhunt, wrecking the old bathhouse, initial carvings everywhere, the stairs, the movies, general store, the sunburns, the stink on the G H I side, those other stairs… the softball games, tetherball… sigh… hither hills is my montauk, and montauk, i love.

i was disappointed when i came here recently! since 2001 its been my most favorite place to eat sweet potato fries… they used to make them like sweetpotato mash sticks, breaded like mozz sticks, so flippin tasty, i was in love… last week i ordered them (after being away from baltimore a year) and they were like every other place with sweet potato fries… like french fries but orange. dude. not cool! i’m sad about it.

but i still adore paper moon and have lovely memories there.

chainsmoking til dawn over a sketchbook and the crusts of toasted sunflower bread with random up-all-night friends. yum.
