Ikea

Worth visiting!

It was the most popular NKOTB ever.

Just wanted to remind all of ya’ll (for the sake of posterity) of our Ikea’s opening week/month. It was IT. It was all people were talking about before it opened, it was the only place people were going the day it opened, it was the only place people were more than happy to wait in hour-long lines and inch out of the parking lot one by one.

And it’s still being sung on the lips of every ordinary citizen.

It was the number one cause of low church attendance that Sunday. Far worse than the Super Bowl. And for good reason! Atlanta Hearts Ikea!

Now just wait until Trader Joe’s finally opens ITP

New Orleans

Why I want to go to this place

I wanted to make a distinct page for the city as it was before Katrina. We all know that although in many ways it’s the same city, in many ways it isn’t the same city any more, but deserves to be remembered that way.

I’d love to see more people add this and contribute entries about their memories…as well as photos.

(I think this listing got removed the first time I added it—but hopefully it won’t happen again…after all, there’s a page for the WTC as it was, and I’m sure no one’s going to take that down! Still, I could be being paranoid; no one took down my Garden of Eden page. :)

New Orleans

Why I want to go to this place

I originally started my own listing under “New Orleans As It Was” but I guess the administrators changed it for me, thinking it would be better for me to live in the present.

But come on, why can there be a page devoted to N.O. as it was before Katrina? In many ways it’s the same city, but in many ways it’s not.

Urasoe

The last time I went to this place

It was home. Most of my life was there. Now it’s not. Part of me is afraid to go back because it’ll be so different, because Okinawa is always changing. But I’m sure Gomi Beach is still Gomi Beach, and that might just be enough.

Ceuta

(in Spain)

Not worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Most definitely not “exactly like England.” Ceuta is what it is—Spain in Morocco, or perhaps Morocco in Spain (although the former is more literal). I don’t see why Spain doesn’t give the land back to Maroc.

(Also, what’s up with the a.k.a. “y Gibraltar”? Totally different places…unless the person who registered it meant they wanted to visit both…)

The High Museum

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

The new High is a whole nother story compared to the old High. Finally we have a museum that’s distinct enough to warrant attention from tourists. We now have a 3-year partnership with the Louvre, so it’s going to be a great season. Plus, no one can beat our Howard Finster collection, which is utterly the bomb.

La Linea

A tip I have about this place

Simply, the La Linea bus station is the closest one you need to get to before crossing over the bridge by foot into Gib(raltar). Just so you know.

Los Angeles River

Worth visiting!

Untitled

I need to get my sister to tell the story about when the LA River really became the LA River. Serious. Those of you who caught this wild and crazy event know what I’m talking about. Some good pictures acomin’.

Stone Mountain

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to locals

Leave your trek up Stone Mtn and tour of All Things Confederate for your out-of-town visitors/relatives who absolutely must do the museum and such (these are the same visitors who want to go to The Freakin World of Coca Cola).

Stone Mountain’s real spiffiness factor is in the myriad trails and fishing spots. And the Christmas lights, of course. And the sorry pow-wow in November. At least Bill Miller’s always there (which makes it worth it).

The Earl

Worth visiting!

Untitled

There was a time when The Earl was really The Earl Will One Day Open, Really. Those were good times. The bar counter was made out of an oak tree that fell down in the owner’s yard. (Was it lightning?) He always got coffee in a plastic mug shaped like a cowboy boot and made his daughter give me a nice tip for her cup of water. This was before Roy had dreds.
