There really is nothing quite like driving through NJ.

There’s much to be said about the place and currently, it’s in bad shape.

I rather enjoyed the seedy border towns that are just a cab ride from the US border. They’re a great way to stand out like a sore thumb, get robbed and probably become very ill if you’re not careful.

It’s worth a visit to remind you of the opulence on the other side of the border.

Iraq is a very special place. Right now I wouldn’t suggest going unless you have previous contact with someone you trust. It is dangerous and you’re likely to get killed.

I found Israel to be interesting. I’m not really interested in this god thing, so it wasn’t as interesting as a nice secular country.

It’s worth floating in the dead sea if you do nothing else in Israel.

The forests around Vancouver are breathtaking. The city is perhaps a bit seedy in certain areas but it’s safe and affordable for the most part. The people are very friendly and it has a nice cafe culture when it’s warm out.

I suggest visiting at least Florence, Rome, Ancona, Ravenna, Venice, Milan and Bologna.

Croatia is very affordable. If you make it to the city of Split, I suggest visiting the island of Vis. From Vis it’s a short night ferry to the east coast of Italy.

Croatia is great for diving and the food is great if you like seafood. It’s also pretty easy to survive as a vegetarian.

Istanbul is a beautiful place full of magical sights.
