Briatore, Overlake

Pizza, Calzones, & others dishes

Briatore is a small mostly take out/delivery place with good food made on site. From Pizzas made using their own sauce to salads and sandwiches, all made when you order with fresh ingredients and friendly staff. There is some seating in the restaurant in the form of a few bistro tables. There’s always a copy of the days’s New York Times there to be read, some nice comfy waiting chairs, and HD TV to watch while you wait for your order.

The Owners (Amy and George) are friendly and ever present as this is their store and will make sure that you are satisfied with your meal.

La Cocina Del Puerco, Old Bellevue

Tasty and nearly authentic

Good food, cheese as a condiment not the #1 ingredient, bulk food is not their style… So, if you’re looking for Taco Bell, not your place (walk out the door, go 1 blk east on main, cross the street and go into the KFC/Taco Bell and get your nasty Taco there.) If you’re looking for fairly authentic… stay, order, enjoy.

Ape Cave, Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument

Well worth the visit

This is one of the most accessible caving experiences in North America that is still pretty honest to caving. It is also the longest unbroken Lava Tube in North America. No lights in the cave… only those you bring. No paved walk ways, not Cafeterias.. And the nearest bathroom is at the parking lot. The cave has an upper and lower section. The lower section is excellent as an introduction to caves and consists of wide and tall cavern sections. Its a gentle down hill to the end… and a gentle up hill back. You’ll need to be able to walk for about a mile for the round trip.

The upper cave is much more rugged but accessible. You must be able to climb over rock falls and traverse narrow spaces but the reward is some interesting rock and lava formations. The upper cave has an exit near the upper end to allow you a surface return… or alternately hike up to the top and descend to the mid point entrance.

I’ve taken groups of teens and adults on this hiking experience. Highly recommend it.
