Aagrah

Worth visiting!

Famous for...

When I first moved to Shipley, every person I met referred to this restaurant as Shipley’s “claim to fame”. Even the Welcome to Shipley signs at either end of the town say “Home of Aagrah”.

True, Shipley doesn’t have all that much else to recommend it, but as far as curry goes, Aagrah is definitely worth the accolades and the mention: Open kitchen, typically fantastical decor, good good food at decent prices. Not the cheapest curry house in the Bradford area, but definitely worth a night out.

Zilker Park

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

...was Christmas time. I was staying in my Mother’s apartment downtown and I could see the Christmas tree from her window and it just looked gloriously festive. I didn’t have any transport, so I tried to get a horse and buggy to take me… but they said it was too far. Nobody could explain which bus to get, so I ended up walking. And it was worth it to spin under the lights…

The Lake District

Too Many People

I think we chose a bad time and a bad place… we aimed to stop in Windermere on our way back to Oxford from Glasgow. It was thronged. We found a place to park but just had absolutely no desire to get out of the car. There were that many people. The drive to Windermere was amazing for scenery though and I’d love to go back to the area to do some rambling around with the mutt… avoiding Windermere at all costs!

Harcourt Arboretum

Not worth visiting!

A review of this place: Not worth the drive

This is a small patch of land sandwiched in-between a very busy road and a different stretch of the same busy road. It’s not at all peaceful, it’s ringed by electrical towers, and it costs three pounds to park.

I would much rather go to Shotover- loads more to see, just as many different flowers, quiet, free, and altogether a better day out.

Nandos

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

One really good thing about Nandos is that, most nights, you can show up with 30 people and they’ll rearrange the tables and fit you all in… good general gathering place for this reason.

Salamanca

Why I want to go to this place

I feel like Salamanca was a missed opportunity for me. After teaching in France, I had this grand idea of moving to Salamanca for a few months as a student and bringing my Spanish up to snuff. I loved the idea of the town and, at the time, it was the European City of Culture.

Instead, I went back to the States and started temping. I really ought to’ve gone to Spain.

What I want to do at this place

My ultimate dream is to go and live here, working in development and disaster risk reduction. I’d settle for going and living here and doing some sort of volunteer work, but I’d need to sort out my finances before I could do that.

In the meantime, I want to learn Bahas’a and I’m learing everything I can about life, conflict, politics. It’s not the easiest thing to do from a distance, but a little effort can go a long way.

California

Worth visiting!

My father moved here after the divorce

So I got to see a lot of the cool stuff that CA had to offer since he had to work madly to make me love him in the one week a year that we had together.

Casablanca

(in Morocco)
Why I want to go to this place

The mystique that the movie carries really is the principal reason for my desire to go to Casablanca. I’ve heard that it’s actually quite an undesireable city and that there are a thousand nicer places to go in Morocco. I concede, but Ithink I shall still pop into Casablanca on my way to the nicer places. It can’t hurt, can it?
