How this place changed my life

Considering it’s my country it has affected me in a lot of ways. I love the U.S., but I do want to be able to travel to other countries. Many other countries. I haven’t been to all 50 States, I’ve stayed mostly on the southeast. I’m hoping to change this as I get older. I think California and Arizone are my next conquest.

Phantom Rocks

Wow! I could not believe that I was actually going to see this before my eyes! I was also still excited because I had just seen Carson Daily while in line to get in. I remember the how caught up in the production I got. I really didn’t think that I would because I listened to the soundtrack all the time and sort of imagined what the stagework would look like. I was blown away! I even fell for the chandelier!

The first time I went to this place

The first time here was so exciting. I was still in high school and we were on a choir trip from Louisiana. I fell head-over-heels for the energy and vibrancy. So many sights and sounds! I remember running off from our group so that I could go to Virgin Megastore. We also lost our friend Akiko, a Japanese exchange student at like, midnight and we had to go around looking for her. We did find her at McDonald’s safe and sound. There weren’t that many bums either. Atlanta and New Orleans could take a cue from this area.

Good Times

I saw Man or Astro-Man? and Of Montreal here back in 2001. Those were some great shows. I was going to Mike Doughty, but I moved back to Louisiana.

A review of this place: This Is Some Tasty Food People

Yeah. It’s been years since I’ve eaten there, but when I lived in Athens, I ate there all the time. A co-worker of mine and I are always singing the praises of The Grit. I’m jealous because he actually has a t-shirt from there. It is my most favorite vegetarian restaurant of all time. When and if I go back to Athens, you better believe this is the first place I will want to eat.

Highland

How this place changed my life

Wow, where do I even start? I love this place so much I wrote a song about called “Highland Lifestyle” on myspace.com/ianquiet. You can hear the song! Highland is where all the magical bohemia and psuedo-ghetto-fabulousness happens. It’s very shady sometimes, sometimes it’s the most energizing place. Sometimes it will get on your nerves. I’ve also lived downtown and Southern Hills and I’m sorry, but if you’re going to live in Shreveport, you better live in Highland. There isn’t really any life anywhere else. Give me Highland by the pound!

Memories

I have played a few shows here. The last time I was actually here was after I evacuated Katrina in 2005. There was a benefit going on and I remember seeing a lot of people I had not seen in a long time. I also used to work in the diner for a few months in 2002. This place has shows a lot. For a while they were all screamo bands. I’m not sure what genres are represented now. I saw Cex here in 2002 and I opened for Parts and Labor in 2003. That was a lot of fun. I need to check in and see what’s going on. I always run into people I haven’t seen in forever when I go.
