Better than you think

Popped out of the Metro @ Madeline station and I was struck nearly blind with Grandness. Mine eyes have seen the glory.

I thought it might be interesting trip, but I was floored. There is no architecture nor palpable joi de vivre like in gay Paree.

Great history

Coming from Toronto, I was surprised to see the downtown area empty out after the workday. It’s practically a ghost town by 6pm, if you don’t count the vagrants and other tourists.

The range of wealth is amazing, from zinc-shacked country po’ to city mansions. Great accents, very relaxed pace. Lots to see and do.

Don't go in late summer

Avoid the height of the hurricane season. Even if you manage to dodge a tropical storm, the weather is just mushy. Rain for a half hour, sun for the other half hour. Continous cycle like that throughout the day.

Still, in my week-long visit (this was about 20yrs ago), I got the sense there was much to see and do and I did luck out with one full sunny day at the beach (ahhh!).

Oh, and watch your wallet.
