Great university town by hob

I like the feel of this place – good people, great food and ice-cream and the porticoes are a revelation.

I love the beach but the Gelato Bar at Bondi Beach has the most wonderful strudels I have ever come across. Cherry and cheese is my personal favourite! Indulge …

Kleines Café, Wien

A lovely spot by hob

I think this is in Franziskanerplatz, not far from Stephansplatz. I’ve been in once and thoroughly enjoyed the dim and cosy atmosphere while sipping on a campari and orange as it drizzled outside.

Could be home ... by hob

I love this place and all that it has to offer. Hard not to feel engaged and alive in this city which has opened up considerably since I first visited in 1991 when it was still a very cold and very expensive city that was rather inaccessible to non-Viennese. The effect on the pulse of the city of recent waves of migration have added a wonderful cosmopolitan dimension to the place. Finally, having the best public transport system I’ve come across, makes it a very liveable city.

The Melbourne Supper Club, Melbourne City

Cheers! by hob

The wine list is extensive to say the least. Lovely view over Spring St through the big window. A nice spot for a gin and tonic. The Wine Club downstairs also makes a delicious goat cheese omelette and the European next door has a wonderful menu – the fries and garlic aioli have often hit the spot for some fast post hard day comfort food.

It’s already been said but this is one beautiful drive along a beautiful coastline – don’t miss it. Also, don’t forget to explore the Otway National Park while you’re there and its magnificent walks.

A place to visit – a place to live, which i did in the late 1990s. Wonderful people with a great sense of humour and humanity, stunning architecture, lush landscapes, the bite of the North Sea and those bridges … Not to mention the town I discovered banoffee pie – yum!

Taormina, Sicilia

I really liked this town – a little touristy (comparatively speaking with the rest of Sicily but certainly not Italy) but spectacular scenery, where the mountains meet the sea, and with a volcano on the horizon for added effect. The people are friendly, the arena and the botanical gardens are beautiful as is the rocky coastline beneath the town, with Isola Bella (see photo), a beautiful island home for some lucky folk.

A fascinating city with a very different feel to other parts of Italy. I agree about the ice-cream, gianduja and cheeses. The cinema museum in the Mole is also great and shouldn’t be missed. I regret not getting to the Egyptian museum but didn’t have the time – when I return …
