Napa and Sonoma used to be wonderful places, but they have been thoroughly Californicated now. Still, worth a visit, just expect to have to share with a lot of other people who think so, too.

Da Nang has a beautiful white sand beach fronting the South China Sea. Marble Mountain, on the south side, is honeycombed with caves. Monkey Mountain, on the north side, is home to a species of rock apes. The trail over the top of the mountain leads to a beautiful cove on the north shore of the mountain that is a great campsite. At least, it was when I was there.

...but stay off of the jungle trails that run within 10 km. of the Vietnam border which were heavily mined during the late 60s/early 70s. The highlands are still Adventure Territory.

...with an incredible view of Laos across the river! I lived there for a year, in a house on stilts on the edge of the Mekong River.

Ulm has the tallest cathedral in Europe. I can’t remember how many steps to the top, but it’s worth the effort.

Stationed here with the US Army for a year. A nice town, friendly people, close to lots of other nice places.
