It’s a nice enough hotel, but the main reason to stay here is that you’re right across the parking lot from Seaworld.

Oh, and Hazel is absolutely right. The indoor aviary is fantastic.

Maybe it was because we didn’t pay for an excursion, but other than the trashy little locals bar we found to hang out at, there was nothing pleasant at all about Freeport.

Check out the “Havana Humidor” in Atlantis. Great selection of those evil commie pinko cigars.

We went on a Jeep Offroad adventure. Driving the Jeep is what motivated me to buy one when we got back. We abused that poor yellow four cylinder so badly and it just kept going.

The best part was while we were snorkling, a sea turtle came up and swam along with us for a hundred yards or so. How can you not love sea turtles?

The shopping at the cruise ship pier is boring, so get out and see the rest of the area while you’re there. Either that, or hang out at Senor Frog’s

I love all the Senor Frog’s. Fun and relaxed, no hint of pretense and rules that are made to be broken.

Sit back, drink some beer and smoke a nice fat Cuban. What more could you want?

Not terribly interested in the shopping or riding an ATV or the typical touristy attractions. I’m thinking of trying to explore Mahahual and see if there is a good local restaurant to try out.

Any suggestions as to how to go native for a day while in port and not get sucked in to the tourist trap crap?

As long as you’re willing to plan your entire life around traffic, it’s great.

I went to Eugene to work with my new programming team for a couple of months back in 1997. Great place with an excellent public transportation, but I had a real hard time connecting with people.
