Hell

Not worth visiting!

hell

i have a vague memory of eating pizza in a huge hallway, a real, heavenly pipe organ delivering sound to the minions stuffing face and gobber with below-average (and below-ground) Italian-style pies and oversized soft drinks… pretty good memory as far as memories of hell go. and the pizza joint was real. (unless it was in okemos, michigan… i wasnt very old when i first went to hell)...

Phi Phi Scuba

I dont know how it fared during the Tsunami, but reports weren’t pretty. Having spent a couple heavenly weeks on this island, I just want to give a shout out to the people who made this place one of those timeless treasures. I hope it’s going well for you all. Best to Phi Phi Scuba, especially.

Yosemite National Park

Worth visiting!

Tuolomne backpacking

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that Yosemite Valley is the sum of it all… I strongly recommend that you take the John Muir Trail from Lake Tenaya down to the Valley. You’ll pass through Tuolomne meadows, which in the spring or fall, is some of the most gorgeous hiking in the world. Seriously. Beware that the first two weeks of mosquito season are horrible.

City Lights Bookstore

Worth visiting!

dharma bums

Dharma bums must visit this historic beat establishment. Go straight downstairs, where, on the left wall, you will still find a section titled marxism.

On your way out look upstairs—if you’re lucky you’ll get a glimpse of Mr Ferlingetti himself.

Be sure to wave—in SF, this place indeed represents the “high-water mark” of leftist politics.

Then get across the street to Specs and have a beer. Or if you prefer, as I would, sit upstairs at Vesuvios and watch the people on the corner.

Fogged in

Would somebody please lend us a few warm and sunny days? You there down in New Mexico? Could we move Taos up this way a bit? Keep SoCal where it is—but we’ll take the new agey if you just bring some of your dry heat….
