Papa Westray, Orkney Islands

Only takes a couple of minutes to get there

The other end of a scheduled, two-minute flight from Westray (although it took me two-and-a-half minutes there, but only one-and-a-half back), Papay is more than just a statistic. It boasts the oldest house in NW Europe, a major bird reserve, seals in North Wick and South Wick bays, and very friendly locals.

If the shop’s closed when you get to it, you can always pop into the community centre and help yourself to a cup of tea or coffee.

Great place to visit

Visited back in 1998 for an Astronomy conference, and spent a few extra days there. Very colourful and impressive place. I agree with s3nsiiparty: worth viewing from the top of a hill.
