Manunabo

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

I really liked going on route 3 through Manunabo even though I was going in the wrong direction. It was really scary since the road was really small and a few short feet was a cliff that dropped an ungodly way down, but it was was a beautiful view. I highly recommend the drive but follow the speed limit and be cautious of the drivers in the opposite direction.

Geppi's Entertainment Museum

A tip I have about this place

Geppi’s is located in the same building as the baseball museum next to Orioles Park in Camden Yards. If you come in from Camden St you will have to walk from the north side of the building to the south where there are stairs and elevator access to the second floor where the museum is located. It’s a little strange but once you are near the south entrance you are good to go.

Baltimore Public Works Museum

The first time I went to this place

Baltimore Public Works Museum is the first museum I have ever been to that gives the history of how waste management played a part in the growth technology to make your tap water safer and cleaner to use. The museum is actually really small considering the size of most museums, but it has more than enough space to go from wooden pipes to filtration systems. It is also interesting to note that the Public Works Building is itself a relic from the past only possible due to the technology evolving and allowing for smaller more effective pumps thereby clearing up the space for the actual museum. If you look up in most of the museum you will see ducts for coal which were used in the early years to supply energy to the pumping station.

It is still today an active pumping station and although there are 17 other pumping stations this one is the largest in the Baltimore area supplying water to the city and county areas. Also if you ask kindly and there are people able to take you to see the pumps that are used today it’s highly recommended.

Poe's Grave

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

Poe’s Grave site is pretty neat. At first I went to just see where Poe was buried, but apparently many of the founders of the area had found their resting place here. So there was a lot of background information on the history of Baltimore especially surrounding the SE area. The walk ways aren’t always clear but surprisingly it’s an interesting place to visit to learn a bit about Baltimore history. It is annoying there is a duck tour bus that runs right in front so you will hear random people using the duck whistles 2 or 3 times an hour. You will also find goth kids hanging around… I should have stopped one and made them say “never more,” but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

American Science And Surplus

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Not Just for Science Nerds!

Do you like posters diagramming the human body or better yet toys and random models? Well this is the place for you. You can go any time of year and find interesting trinkets that make your eyes fill up with glee. I’ve been to this place countless times and have always wanted to walk away with bags of things. It’s all generally at a good price and the staff is always helpful.

Matthew's Pizza

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

Today is my first day in Baltimore and I was looking for a place to go eat. I found Matthew’s Pizza on the interweb and it’s not too shabby for a pizza especially on the east coast. They don’t deliver, but they will take orders for carry out. I had the everything pizza minus the anchovies. If you order for take out forget about ordering drinks they only have fountain.

Red Line

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Your Line is your gang sign...

So as most Chicagoans know you pick your line and that’s who you are in the city. Well the red line is a homeless sewer. Some people call it “artsy” but I beg to differ. It’s no blue line, but some people seem to like it.

Brown Line

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

The brown line is undergoing a major face lift like many of the aging Trixies that frequent it’s stops. This overhaul is expected to go on until 2009. It’s still easier than driving but a few of the stops aren’t available depending on where the construction moves.

So in 2009 expect at every stop LONGER PLATFORMS, WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE ENTRANCES, and GLOWING LIGHTS THAT WILL KILL OF ANY MUGGERS! lol maybe not the last one but it would be funny to see them put that in.

Park Place Cafe

Not worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

Just going on my childhood experiences… I would not recommend eating here… Especially not the dolphin shaped fries. If the food is as gross as I remember I suggest bringing a bag lunch.

Since I haven’t eaten here for over 15 years I suggest bringing food but maybe trying out the food too. I’d like to know if it’s gotten better.

Chimpanzee & Gorilla House

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

I’ve always loved this part of the zoo. The best times to go are off peak times when there aren’t a flood of people around. I always felt that the animals were more likely to act normal when there weren’t 20-30 kids running around screaming and tapping the glass.
