MOCA, Bunker Hill
i went for the basquiat exhibit
im not a huge fan of modern art but i went to see the basquiat exhibit. there was a man working at MOCA who would lead a tour and talk about differernt paintings the extra insight helped. basquiat had the quote “cowards will pay to get rid of you” on a few of his paintings it kinda stuck with me. my favorite by far was his painting “St Joe Louis Surrounded by Snakes” and i havent been able to find a picture of it online at all. If someone has one please let me know. their website is http://www.moca.org
Also if you go to MOCA you might as well check out Red Cat since it’s so close. http://redcat.org/
over 5 years agoThe Echo, Echo Park
The Echo is a venue
They have a variety of music. Normally its free on Mondays, on Wednesdays its reggae night called Root Down where they play roots, dancehall, rocksteady, dub etc… Also Saturdays they have a regular thing, the first Saturdays is Bootie LA where the DJs spin Mash ups, 2nd is Dragstrip 66 where they spin indie/electro/funk, 3rd saturday is Hang the DJs spinning britpop/indie/electroclash and the 4th saturday of the month is Soundlessons where they spin hiphop/neo soul/downtempo. The rest of the time they are a good small club to see national and local bands. Most of the shows are 12 dollars or under. It’s a good spot
