American Jazz Museum, 18th & Vine Historic District

American Jazz Museum, Kansas City, Missouri

If you are into American jazz or even American history this place is great in the Kansas City jazz scene to life for you. I think its name is a little bit misleading though in that the museum greatly emphasizes the local scene and heritage rather than giving survey of American jazz.

Lawrence, Kansas

Back from Lawrence, Kansas

Back to humidity free, cool nighted Colorado! But you know what? Lawrence is a very nice place… had a familiar feel to me — quite similar to Fort Collins, Boulder… even Austin, TX. It probably wouldn’t be my first choice as either destination or place to live, but I wouldn’t feel “sentenced” to have to go there again either. In fact, should Abi choose to attend any of the KU music camps again next summer I’ll look forward to the return trip.

Mall Of America, Bloomington

Just the same but bigger

I was “fortunate” enough to be working and staying like a block from Mall of America the week it first opened. While everyone and most especially the ladies in my office were all agog and running over to it on their lunch breaks, I steadfastly refused until my last day in Minneapolis. I have to say despite my protestations it was worth seeing… once. Especially when it was still on brand shiny new. But if you’ve seen another mall is there really a reason you have to see eight more in the same place? I guess there is for other and to each their own, but I’ll pass.
