The City Tavern, Old City

The City Tavern; Old City Philadelphia

I loved this place! A recreation on the site of the original where the founding fathers of this nation used to eat, drink, and talk. Everyone is in period dress, and the menu says it’s authentic 18th century American culinary history. Some of their items, including the beer, are based on recipes from the founding families. A “local resident” from the 18th century strolls around and talks with people. I thought the food, beer, and atmosphere were great. It’s expensive, but it’s an experience.

Harpa Concert Hall, Reykjavik

Harpa Concert Hall

I was in Reykjavik in mid-August 2011 while Harpa’s interior was still being completed. The door was open so I walked in and took some photos which I’ll post here. It’s an amazing building and I think it will get a lot of international press when it opens.

Dublinia; Viking & Medieval Dublin, Dublin

Dublinia; Viking & Medieval Dublin

This is a very interesting and interactive museum of the Viking history of Dublin and also Dublin’s Medieval period. It has an excellent balance of visual aids, videos, staged recreations, interactive stuff for kids, and printed information. Kids and adults both were enjoying it. It’s in an annex of Christ Church Cathedral. I recommend it.
