It was to Mandal (via Kristiansand and Oslo) around the month of June, so it was the “peak” time to go. The temperatures were around 65-75F, and cool at night (so overall not too hot and not too cold). The Norwegians were lively and very friendly people. Tourist areas were crowded but not overflowing with people. The food was so-so, but that was not a factor as there were plenty of choices.

Fly into Oslo and then take the train to the south was how I did it and seemed “cheapest.”

As others have commented, the county is like any other suburbs, though with a diverse populace. IMHO, the main attraction of SMC is the weather. It is mostly warm and slightly breezy (no need for parkas or constantly running AC). Good schools, good businesses and economy. Hence, the high living costs and pricey homes.

An average suburban “city,” with a large immigrant (mainly Filipino, but other ethnic groups as well) population. DC is a place to pass through and stop to shop familiar stores and eats if necessary, but not to go out of the way to visit.

Lots of surburban mall shops, anchored by Macy’s. However, many kids (i.e. junior and high schoolers) and large families go there to just hangout, if you like that type of scene.

The nearby and recently remodeled Tanforan, or even Stonestown Mall in SF, are “better” IMHO.

Absolutely go before 10:30am to get a table, or a short wait. Even then, it is cutting it close. After that time, prepare for long waits, up to an hour or more, no matter the party size or have “reservations.”

Better yet, go for dinner as the wait is shorter if at all. Kind of pricey but worth it if you can afford it. $$
