Drexciya was an electronic music band from Detroit, Michigan.
Drexciya combined a faceless, underground, anti-mainstream media stance with mythological, sci-fi narratives, to help heighten the dramatic effect of their music. In this respect they were similar to artists within and close to the Detroit collective Underground Resistance.

Their name referred to a myth comparable to Plato’s myth of Atlantis, which the group revealed in the sleeve notes to their 1997 album “The Quest”. “Drexciya” was an underwater country populated by the unborn children of pregnant African women thrown off of slave ships that had adapted to breathe underwater in their mother’s wombs.

Don’t expect to be dazzled. I’m still trying to figure out why people keep saying this is a destination. When I went, I didn’t see anything interesting. However, I didn’t go during the Salmon run and maybe that is more eventful.

I went there and didn’t like the food or service.

It has the best room for b-day parties and to impress visitors. Whenever we have an artist(s) in town we reserve that back room for a night out. They love it and we love it!

My friends and I go here because we won’t run into anyone we know. It’s a great place to get away for us.

SAM has hired a new curator of contemporary art and a new deputy director of programs. Expect to see some amazing programming once they re-open.

I used to live in DC for three years. DC is an amazing city but don’t get stuck on the mal, so go and explore the neighborhoods. Otherwise, you won’t be actually visiting DC.

The yam fries are delicious! Plus, Gary (owner of el greco) bought me some fried chicken from Ezell’s because my friend’s boyfriend said Black people love fried chicken. Guess what? He was right. That chicken was good. Thanks Gary!

This is a great organization that offers amazing programs. I go to all of thier events. :)
