I staed there last December and it was just nasty. The room was okay, but when I woke up the next morning I noticed the bed wasn’t clean. When I pulled the sheets back there were black specks or something hard in the bed and a cigarette butt. So much for nonsmoking rooms and cleanliness.

I stayed here over Thanksgiving and booked a room (2 Queen beds, non-smoking) on the internet. There were 3 of us going. When we arrived they said the room was not yet ready and to check back after 6pm. After dinner we went to the room and discovered it was 1 king size bed. We called to the front desk and said that is not what we reserved and it wouldb’t work with 3 people. They said too bad. When asked if we could get something off the bill, they said no – so for $140 I got to sleep on a love seat. They recommended that the next day we call back to see if they could change our rooms. Call back between 1-2. We did and they said they couldn’t tell yet – call back between 6-8pm. It eventually worked out, but they were unwilling to do anything the first night. While in the elevator we encountered another couple upset because they got up to the 24th floor to discover their card didn’t work. The front desk recommended they come back down and wait in line again to get a new one. I won’t stay there again.

Old newspaper factory makes the town smell bad when passing through. Once you are there, it is not noticeable.

When I got married, we honeymooned here. The islands are nice – only bad thing is the town closes down at sunset. Rent a bicycle and tour the island.

Gallipolis is known as City of the Gauls. It was settled by the French along the banks of the Ohio River. It is a quiet, rural town. They do have war reenactments and the Silver Bridge connecting it to Point Pleasant, WV is the one that fell down in the late 1960’s. Citizen were rumored to have seen a creature known as the Mothman just prior to its falling. That is the subject of the Mothman Prophecies movie starring Richard Gere.

Okay, so it might be a cool place and my experience is my fault. I thought it would be cool – get a picture of the ostrich, feed it, what have you. So I buy some ostrich food. The picture shows the owner feeding the ostrich like a chicken. As I get there, there are many of the dirty birds running into each other, fighting and getting ready for the upcoming feast. I pour some seed in my hand and as I put it up toward the fence I am thinking maybe it isn’t such a good idea. Their mouths are open, they are hissing and look like cobras. When I reach my hand up one strikes at it to get the food. If they had teeth I would have pulled back a stub! I say skip the ostrich and stick to the cute little deer.

I went in late October after the visitor’s center was closed. I didn’t see much of anything. No animals, no people – but it was very beautiful. I would love to come back when it is open and maybe see something

Here is a picture of me as a kid with my grandmother. She used to love to go to Gatlinburg, TN so we would always drive through London. She frequently stopped at this little sourvenir store called Dog Patch.

This is one of the oldest and best stadiums in the country. The legendary ivy walls and the fact that it is nestled in the neighborhood make it worth a trip

Going up the arch in the little cars was a little interesting. But the arch itself was cool.
