Cool town with a great University!

Graduated here about 10 years ago. Cool town with lots of potential. The problem: There is quite a large amount of old money here, i.e. only a couple old fart families run the town, and oppose any type of change. Consideration to keeping the town historic while bringing in some new things. Namely: Bars!!! There are very few if any in this town. I believe the place to go was known as “Crossroads”. That’s all I ever heard stories about, but that was before my time. We need some of these people to die off so it can become a wet county again. Bring some cool bars and restaurants and make it like most other college towns. Enrollment will skyrocket and so will money flowing into the community. Unitl then, it’s going to just suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going there in a week and will drink like there is no tomorrow.

I cannot say the same for the controller I had to deal with a Dannelly Field. What a chump.

That’s where I got my rifle (Avatar). Go to the CMP and pick one up!

One of the few nice areas of Birmingham!

UAB and Five Points is really nice. I think the area just around and south of Vulcan is great. Farther south is Hoover, a really nice area. I flew over the city in a helicopter at only a couple hundred feet. You can request a VFR overflight of the downtown from Birmingham Tower since KBHM is Class Charlie Airspace. On the ground however, most of the rest of the town (like the other 80% besides what is mentioned) is like a third-world country. Just one giant ghetto. Go to 5 points.

One of the few cool places in this entire town. Really quite impressive intersection with a couple of bars. Go to Dave’s Pub. As you move south you move into an affluent area with nice houses. Just south of UAB.
