Thailand is an amazing place – especially if you leave behind the farang beaches! Go meet some locals, learn some thai, take cooking lessons, go to the north and trek, stay in a monastery, get dreads and become a hippy. Go diving, eat mango + sticky rice, rent a bike and cruise the main provinces. Meet locals! Thais are such friendly and happy people!

When in BSB, take a water taxi out to see the palace, and to cruise around the many houses built on the water. The mosques are quite amazing as well. Brunei is often overlooked – go here if you like to discover a country for yourself, but don’t expect it to be the most amazing place you have ever been. Every country is very unique in its’ own way.

The most outrageous hiking I have ever done in my life! Plus, my friends who are biologists told me – you know that there are new species of moss discovered there every day? ... I beleive it! What and amazing and (almost) untouched place for jungle trekking!

You can learn lots about Tibetan culture outside of Tibet, as many people have been displaced, and their culture thrives a bit more outside of the TAR (Tibet Administrative Region) The Labrang Monastery outside of Lanzhou (town is called Xiahe) is an excellent place to spend some time getting to know locals. Also, spend some time in Sichuan Province.

You don’t have to go to ‘Tibet’ to see Tibet! (Lhasa is over-touristed and stressful, though of extreme importance to locals. Try to get out and see places off the tourist trail, i.e. spend alot of time if you are going to go!)
