Maui, Hawai'i

It’s a bit like the mainland in a suburban sprawl (with lots of shopping) sort of way, but I still like it.

Oakland, Alameda County

Oakland has a real city vibe, with streets lined with retail shops and places to grab great, cheap food. It’s very easy to get around without a car and BART can get you quickly to San Francisco or Berkeley, or even to Fremont. A great, central location.

San Mateo, San Mateo County

Untitled by flata

One of the few crappy towns in South Bay / Peninsula worth visiting, because there’s a good number of good places to eat, including places with fakemeat. Notable for a good chance to get good Asian, Indian and Hawaiian food, though it can be a little overrun with people at lunchtime on workdays, and shuts down pretty hard at other times. Notably, must have the ramen at Santa!

One of the few crappy towns in South Bay / Peninsula worth visiting, because there’s a good number of good places to eat, including places with fakemeat. Notable for a good chance to get good Asian, Indian and Hawaiian food, though it can be a little overrun with the young, rich, beautiful, and snobby who block the sidewalks through all of downtown.

Milpitas, Santa Clara County

Worth visiting for food, which is conveniently accessible without having to deal with any other part of Milpitas.
