Two years ago I took the best trip of my life. I went to see the small village in Caltinasetta where my grandmother was born. Her name was Sebastiana Montagnino and her family came from Mussomelli. It was unreal. I found my way into through the streets, to the castle, the old clothes washing place, to the church altar, and the cemetary. I was in heaven. I felt so close to her. It is an ancient, stone town on a hill. Every building is pale and gray, like it’s history is a color. There are steep winding streets and tiny little doorways with arch shapes on top. All the people would be inside watching tv or eating together, and peering out at us as we wandered the cobblestones. The best day of my life..

but I had to get the hell out of there to grow up and experience life somewhere else. What better place than New York City! Florida stays close to my heart with its’ big sky, salt air, and distant horizon. Long live the Spaced Out Coast. It’s now my favorite vacation spot.
