Cecil's

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Deelicious

So good. So yummy. Cecil’s is a kosher deli that also has a sit-down area in the back. We each had a “Shayna” with pastrami and turkey and cheese on a homemade bun. Then we split a house banana cream pie. Yum, yum, yum, yum. Go there!

Rock Island State Park

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Pre-trip, we had found information on the Internet that said there are no tours available. This is not true, though the guy at the Island said they start up July 1. Not sure if that was just this year or every year. Well worth it! The lighthouse is beautifully restored. The hike around the island is 6.5 miles but not too hard – relatively flat, though root-y in places. Very enjoyable trip.

Black Bear Casino

Not worth visiting!

A review of this place: AWFUL

We thought it would be ok to stay at a casino for one night on our way to another destination because there is not much going on in Duluth on Sunday nights. We thought it would be a good way to get a cheap room and eat on site, etc. So NOT WORTH IT!!!!! People had been smoking in the elevators and stairwells, and the buffet . . . oh, the barf-et. The food looked like it had been out for hours in some cases. I even had to spit out my hard pierogies. Gross. So gross. I don’t know what we were thinking. NEVER AGAIN.

El Burrito Mercado

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Authentic Mexican

If you want authentic Mexican food, this is a great place to try. Also, a trip here is worth it to see all the different food products from Latin America and maybe even try some!

Banning State Park

Worth visiting!

Beautiful skiing

The snow was pristine. We did the Quarry Trail loop and went up (the wrong way – oops) Deadman’s Trail and also did the High Bluff Trail and the Wolf Creek Trail. All the trees were coated in snow and we were practically the only people there. Wonderful!

Al's Breakfast

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Be prepared to wait . . .

There are only 14 seats at Al’s Breakfast, but we found it worth the wait. The pumpkin pancakes were delicious. It’s kind of a greasy place but that’s what makes the food so good. We would go back again.

The Hope Chest

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: good suits and formal dresses

This place is a high-end thrift shop with the proceeds benefiting breast cancer research. They have a lot of very nice stuff but as far as deals, think suits, wedding dresses, formal dresses. That’s where you are going to save some money at this place. Maybe on furniture, too. I’m just not that into furniture.

Valu Thrift

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: The best!

This is the best thrift store. Ample, clean, always excellent merchandise and quality prices. Don’t expect to find some hidden treasure, though . . . for the most part, they know when stuff is worth something and price accordingly.

Jay Cooke State Park

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

was for my 29th birthday. It is beautiful and we are hoping to make it back for some skiing this winter. The St. Louis River is intimidating!!

Glensheen Mansion

Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Be sure to use the restroom before you go if you are squeamish about porta-potties. There are indoor toilets available at the END of the hour-long tour. FANTASTIC place to visit. My favorite room was the breakfast room.
