This is an awesome country! Of course, if you’re not doing volunteer work though, you might be bored after a week. I think all the guide books should say that.

I was doing volunteer work and thus thoroughly enjoyed the month I was there (August). It really seems like an out of this world country… the language is completely unique (it reminded me of Klingon) and the national costumes are like something out of Star Wars… but I’m very suspicious that the designers for that movie didn’t just get their ideas from Mongolian national clothing design. Seriously!

The people are great and everything is really cheap. The train ride from Moscow to UB is an adventure in itself… you feel like you’re on your own personal reality tv show as you get to know the other wagon members that you’re stuck with for the 5 day trip! Get used to no showering either. :)

Actually... this was where I had probably what will be one of the last "bonding trips" with my Dad. It was the experience of a lifetime and will never regret it!

To be exact I went to Bali with my Father… on a bonding trip. Definitely worth it… both Bali and the bonding!

I spent two months in St. Petersburg in 2003. Summer months so I cant give a full report of course… will have to go there in winter to be able to do that!

But I loved it for sure… everything seems like its out of a movie its so typically RUSSIAN. Thats a bit of an understatement though. :)
