Grew up here…. cool place.
Dartmoor and Exmoor are beautiful. There are loads of ‘chocolate box’ villages and thatched cottages, but some of the towns (Plymouth in particular) are not that nice. You can also get great scones and clotted cream, or clotted cream ice cream, which is really nice!

Came here for a day on the train from Luzern. Beautiful city – medieval streets and covered pavements. Take a trip up the Cathedral tower, the views are amazing!

Loved TO!

Had about a week in Toronto last summer – end of June. I LOVED the city. It was safe, clean, easy to get around…
One fun thing to do is take the Hippobus Tour – catch it from the corner of Front and John streets. You get a tour of the city, and then the bus goes into the harbour and chugs around in the water for a while – great fun!
The only bad thing was the heat – it hit 42 degrees centigrade one day, and the humidity was horrible. Best way to avoid the heat though is to get into the PATH system under the city centre. It’s fantastic, but there are few maps to help you navigate, so you may get lost….we did, but you see interesting things anyway, and people did come up to us and ask if we wanted help.

Great view, great food!

If you can afford it, go to the revolving resturant at the top. Food is great and the views are amazing. If you go at dusk you get the sunset and all the city lights coming on. Admission to the observation deck is also included. Watch out for the glass floor…totally freaky!!

Exmouth

Ahh home...

Grew up here…. left it age 19 to go to uni.
It’s a funny little place, great for families and retired people but not huge amounts going on for those in between, though proximity to Exeter does help.
Full of tourists in the summer, but the beach on warm summer nights is fab. Only the locals in the winter, so you get the beack to yourself! It’s the kind of place where everyone knows everyone else and their business, but with only one secondary school, that’s kinda inevitable. I loved growing up there, had way more freedom than I would have had in a city. On the coast, close to the motorway, close to Dartmoor and other heathland. Exeter 20 mins away, Plymouth and Bristol about an hour away.
Not huge amounts of stuff to do IN the town, but if you have a car, there are a lot of other local sights and attractions.

Great city!

If you can make the effort, go to the International Red Cross Museum up in the UN complex. It’s a couple of buses out of the city centre but DEFINATELY worth it – one of the best museums I’ve ever been to.
Great city for strolling around in the hot summer evenings….

Fantastic city!

Things worth doing… go to Hundertwasser house, Kunsthistorisches museum, Schloss Schonbrun, MAK, take a ride on the trams round the gertal (ring). Go into Stephansdome, wander round Kartner Strauss and up Graben and through the Hofberg. You can also spend nice hot evenings hanging around in cafes eating apfel strudel and watching the world go by. There’s a great cafe called Cafe Hummel up on the corner of Albertgasse on the tram line. Not touristy in the least and good for people watching!

Amazing!!!!!!!

Go and see the falls from the Canadian side. There’s more to see and you can get right up close to the horseshoe falls.
We went on the boat (leaves from the Canadian side) which goes right up close to the falls, and it was like being in a torrential rainstorm. You will get soaked!

World Trade Center Site

Worth visiting!

I was in New York in July 05 when the London bombs went off and seeing ground zero did have an impact. From ground level, there isn’t much to see and you don’t get an idea of the scale of things. I spent a couple of nights at the Millenium Hilton which overlooks Ground Zero – we were on 16th floor and looking right into the site. I got a much better idea of the size of the site – the depth of the foundations and the overall size. You can also see the subway trains running through the site.
