Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

The only place with FDR’s house and a sex toy shop on the same street.

American Museum Of Natural History

Worth visiting!

Untitled

Dinosaurs and dioramas—it was a great way to spend a summer afternoon. I made it there in time for the Darwin exhibit and found it pretty interesting. Though the dinosaurs are the real reason to go.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

If you want indie cred to drop when talking to NYU kiddies, tell them you slept out to get tickets BEFORE THE MOVIE CAME OUT.

Nah, it’s cool. It’s a lovely show, changing with the cast, and has Seasons of Love, so it has to be good.

The first time I went to this place

I didn’t think I’d be taken in… but I was. I totally forgot I was in the city. It’s beautiful.

Bodies The Exhibit

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

I was an AP Bio student when I saw this. It gave great descriptions of all the organs and everything was so well preserved—it was really amazing. There was a section of it where they filled the blood vessels with the latex to preserve it, and then got rid of the rest of the body so you just saw this body made of little red and blue vessels. They sliced the bodies in such interesting ways it never really got boring. They showed fetus progression, like many places do, but then they also showed the fetus inside a woman. In addition to the regular body parts, it compared diseased ones to normal ones. They also added a cute touch by putting the bodies in various positions, such as running, to show different muscles.

If you want to learn about human anatomy, this is perfect.

Mystic Aquarium

Worth visiting!

Untitled

There weren’t many fish, but what made this aquarium worth it for me, were the warm blooded creatures. Their sea lions, penguins, and whales were adorble and made dealing with small children screaming about nemo somewhat bearable. They also had a cool presentation about how they purify all the water, but I suppose I could have read a Brita manual for the same thing. Hooray penguins!

Avon Cinema

Worth visiting!

Untitled

A little theatre with awesome indie movies. I saw Me and You and Everyone We Know there. I also saw Mad Hot Ballroom there, and I have yet to hear anything about either movie elsewhere. Also, their bathroom is decorated splendidly.

Thayer Street

Worth visiting!

Untitled

I lived in Brown’s dorms for a bit and therefore visited thayer daily. I loved the street, the over priced shops, and the cheap pizza. The store24 was my favorite place, and it holds a lot of great memories. There are a ton of flyers on the phone poles, as any college town should have! There’s always something going on.

Waterfire

Not worth visiting!

Untitled

The way people were talking about this, I thought it would be more than a few metal bowls on fire and some fire spinners. It’s good for a few minutes or in passing, but it’s not that great.

The Mütter Museum

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

I went here with my boyfriend and I’m not sure which was better, seeing all the medical oddities, or seeing him squirm. Personally, I liked the collection of skulls. Definitely worth trying to find a parking spot for!
