Roswell

Worth visiting!

Untitled

My dad (RIP) was born here, one of only a handful of white kids in an Hispanic neighborhood. Raised with his brother my divorced grandma. She worked as a waitress to support them.

Dad grew up, joined the Army, married my mom, and at one point we lived in Roswell. My younger sister was born here.

The last visit to Roswell was to strew my father’s ashes along the Rio Grande.

used to go here a lot

when I lived in Alamogordo decades ago ;)

A recent visit proves that the place hasn’t lost its magic.

Rocket Trailer Park

Not worth visiting!

the biggest trailer park in the U.S.

and I used to live there, back in 1971-1972.

it’s really just a trailer park. But at the time I lived there, I had lots of fun friends, there were little desert-walk areas in the undeveloped areas, lots of places for a kid to explore.

Chesler Park

Worth visiting!

layer cake geology and more stars than you've ever seen

We had to hike in for almost an entire day, carrying our water with us. We stayed over for a few nights.

Took a memorable hike up a box canyon, all the time followed and watched by the largest raven I’ve ever seen.

There isn’t a lot of running water there in September, but we managed to find some coming out of canyon walls, and ran it through a ceramic filter for drinking.

Very highly recommended. The picture is from this website:

Baja California Sur

(in Mexico)

Worth visiting!

Learn to speak some Spanish first, it's definitely worth it.

I encountered the kindest, most beautiful people on my car-trip through Baja Sur.

I would love to retire in this area, maybe someday.
