Charleston, South Carolina

Untitled

I stayed at the Isle of Palms in the middle of October. The weather wasn’t great for the beach, but I liked sleeping with the windows open and hearing the ocean as I slept. I did some touristy stuff during the days and did some drinking at night. I ate at a few restaurants that were recommended to me by other visitors including Cosmic Dogs and Slightly North of Broad. Both were good.

By far the best part of this trip was runnning into a bartender that I knew in Richmond. Random reunions are wonderful and it gave me an insiders view to the bar scene. It was a great place to visit and see, my only regret is not letting people I know in Charleston know that I was coming.

St. John's Church, Richmond

Untitled

I finally went to see St. John’s; after living 5 minutes down the street from the church for more than a year. It was pretty neat. The church is restored, but still in use so you can avoid some of the tremendously cheesy restorative history stuff that happens so often in Virginia. But there is still plenty left from the original church so you can get a good feel for the historical situation in which Patrick Henry gave his nifty speech.

I took the tour, which was informative and I highly recommend it to any interested party. The guy giving the tour was nice and it added alot to bring the location to life.

Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Untitled

I had a great time. There is a lot of touristy stuff to do in the daytime including shopping, fishing, and njoying the mountains in general. The town was beautiful, if not a little bit overgrown with hotels and such. I was really impressed with how alive the town was at night. The streets were nearly packed with all sorts of people enjoying a beautiful night in the mountains. I’m sure the plethora of little bars along the main drag had nothing to do with this crowd.
