My grandmother owned a house in Cuernavaca for the last 20 years or so, and I’ve been down there lots of times, last time over Christmas 2005.
There’s not a lot to do in the zocalo, that’s true, but if you’ve got a car or are willing to take a bus, it’s a good central point for a base of operations to such places as Tepotzlan, Taxco, Xochicalco. There are also many good restaurants.

I’ve also been back since Katrina. Most of the places in the city tourists see are relatively unscathed.
over 5 years agoI went to school and lived there for 6 years. I had fun, and so I’ll say it was worth visiting, but not all that much there, other than the college.
