Underground

Worth visiting!

There was the first Underground, the revival, and now the Underground of today

Nothing can equal the first Underground. It was spontaneous, unexpected places to eat, party, shop. The official revival turned it into a “mall” then came the kiosks and fewer shops. However, the dollar store, African Pride, and Wolff Camera hanging in there, with Micks upstairs and down for food and the food court are still staples worth visiting. It hums with tourists on weekends and holidays and is still unique, an important part of Atlanta.

What shoppers do not realize, as it is cut off from surrounding shops, is that there are interesting shops with good values surronding Underground itself.

Kansas City

Not worth visiting!

In search of the doll museums

The headquarters of the United Federation of Doll Clubs in an office park on the outskirts of the city has a small but delightful exnibit. There is also a doll house museum with a few dolls , especially good Bilo collection, but specializes in the doll houses themselves.

Want to buy a souvenir doll ? Probably your best bet is a Wizard of Oz doll, undoubtedly made in China.

A tip I have about this place

I was in London on a job exchange in East London. Some of my coworkers had lived there all of their lives and could remember the bombing from childhood. The call to prayer from the mosque, stores filled with saris, clash of blacks and East Asians in the market, a very ethnic feel aboud the place. Get a walking tour book and see a different London.
