I was supposed to go here for my future brother-in-law’s wedding. Then my fiance dumped me.
over 5 years agoIt’s been almost ten years since I was there, but I would go back in a heartbeat to see it all again.
The first memory to pop into my head when thinking about the Great Wall was the Camel rides you could take halfway up and just off to the left of the wall. Once you made it to the top, you could buy Coca-Cola from a very persistant little man. It just seemed so out of place in a country steeped in history, however I soon learned that this was the norm. As the East becomes more Westernized, traditions fall by the wayside, and the almighty dollar claims another victim.
Ha! I just remembered another funny thing from the Great Wall – there’s a KFC (and probably a McDonald’s) located at the base, and there was a statue of The Colonel. The funny thing is that he suddenly had some very Asian features that I didn’t remember from the statues back home. ;-)
