Breitenbush, Oregon

If you're young

Breitenbush in my opinion is a young people’s place. My friend and I went last summer – we’re in our 60s. It’s rustic…too rustic for us. We like our creature comforts. We shared a cabin and the other two women were there first and got the bottom bunks. My friend is overweight and couldn’t get up on the top bunk so had to drag the mattress to the floor and then she was in the way and not comfortable. Bathrooms are down the trail. The food was good and plentiful. No desserts though. Hot springs are nice and the people, both workers and visitors, are friendly. Time passes very slowly there. You can really unwind if that’s what you want on a vacation.

Japanese Garden, Washington Park

Wonderful!

I visited Portland in summer 2005 and the Japanese Garden was one of three gardens we visited. It is beautiful, so serene and lovely. Every square inch beautiful. The Japanese Garden is downtown, but parking was very easy, and the guides are knoweledgable. You can wander on your own though and meditate on the lovely sites. Go also to the Chinese Garden and the Rose Garden. All wonderful.
