Bali, Indonesia

Diversified experiences.

Bali is what you make it. There are a lot of things to do there and they are all varied in experiences.

Kuta is crawling with tourist. If you like excitement and bigger crowds, this is the place to be. Kuta is more commercialized than any other part of Bali. I stayed in Sanur where you will find hotels with their private beaches and is more relaxing. Just lay out all day and enjoy the scenery or catch a 20 minute cab to Kuta to have a little more fun. Find a guide for the day and he’ll drive you around to the other parts of Bali. The inland towns are just as exciting as those that border the beaches. Please visit one of the many volcanoes on the island. The landscape is absolutely breathtaking.

My suggestion is to spend a day discovering the other parts of Bali and then returning to your hotel and enjoying the active night life in the busier parts of the island. There’s a lot to do in Bali to suit anyones’ needs.

Singapore, Asia

Good short visit.

Even if you have a short layover at Changi International Airport, it’s worth it to venture out for a day. Public transportation is phenomenal. It’s the best I’ve experienced in a big city. Getting to places is extremely easy. Almost everything is in walking distance from an MRT (subway and rail system) station.

Visit the little cultural subsections of Singapore and find great places to eat and little shops to browse while getting a taste of the culture. Visiting Clarke Quay at night and taking a ride down the river into the bay is a must. Pick up brochures at the airport or in your hotel to find things to do that interest you. Stay at a hotel near Orchard road if you like to shop.

Singapore is very safe and very clean. It is also very high tech. Westerners will adapt fast to this country. English being the lingua franca made communicating trouble free. 2-3 days in Singapore should be enough.

William T. Young Library, University Of Kentucky

A second home for students.

W.T. Young Library is often spotlighted by the University of Kentucky, and rightfully so. The library is big, offering patrons the feeling of openness. This is demonstrated in its layout. If someone sneezes on the first floor, you are able to hear it from the fifth. Often a favorite place for students to study. You will find the library packed during finals week. Just a lot of library-goodness!
