I couldn’t believe how much Spanish I heard. I wanted to merengue but was by myself and not quite dressed for it so I chickened out. I did, though, find not only the hairbrush I was shopping for but a whole STORE of nothing but hairbrushes! And I had a great mango smoothie for dinner.

Check out the store with all the natural treasures: fossils, mineral eggs, framed butterflies, little fur things, alligator heads, etc. Fun!

I find the idea of it so compelling. The music, the multi-ethnic history, the natural beauty… everyone’s been to Paris and Prague, give me the Caucasus anyday.

I have very early memories about Portland – seeing two mountains from the middle of town, in particular. Mt. St. Helens used to be shaped like this: A Now it is shaped more like this: m My sister and her family live there and I visit once or twice a year, whether it’s cold and drippy mid-winter or not. I always eat well there, perhaps too well. I veer between buzzed on caffeine and tipsy on red wine. One of these days, when I have accomplished all I want to here in DC (not my favorite place in the world, but please don’t get me started right now), I will move to Portland. I think it’s my home.
