My best friend and I visited the Outer Banks on our spring break in 1997. It was my first big road trip. We had so much fun, but that was nearly ten years ago now, and there was so much we didn’t see! I was so excited to see the Atlantic Ocean for the first time… although it looked very much like Lake Michigan …except for the sunrise.. that was beautiful. Unfortunately, my memory of it is screwed up because my friend and I decided to take pictures of each other on the beach with the sunrise in the background… all the pictures turned out looking like fire was coming out of our butts. We fondly reefer to them as the “fart pictures”.

I want to visit again, especially now that I’m a teensy bit more mature!

My husband proposed to me here, so it is a very special place. I can’t wait to go back. We didn’t get to stay on the island, but someday I would like to stay at the Grand Hotel. I would also love to visit the island at Christmas time, see the sites, and go cross-country skiing.
